Biography

Scott Kozicki is a technologist, strategist, entrepreneur, and daddy. The latter of which he hopes he is the most successful at.

Most recently, Mr. Kozicki has been a founding member of JumpStart Foundry, a community focused microfund with Solidus Venture Capital. JumpStart Foundry helped start up 7 companies in 2010 and is poised to repeat the same in 2011. Mr. Kozicki was instrumental in recruiting and establishing the initial pool of 20 mentors as well as the mentor pool for 2011, in addition to serving as a board member/mentor for the first funded company to earn revenue and a board member/mentor for the first company to raise additional funding.

In early 2009 Mr. Kozicki co-founded HealthCampNash, an "unconference" aimed at innovation and practical discussion of health care, held in May, 2009 in Nashville, Tennessee. HealthCampNash is part of the international HealthCamp movement, which seeks to involve the community in knowledge sharing and practical examples of improving health and health care services. HealthCampNash was one of the largest attended HealthCamps ever, and featured topics ranging from exploding costs; political barriers stymying health care reform; health care consumerism; and new paradigms in electronic health records.

Prior, Mr. Kozicki was founder and Chief Executive officer of Truu Health, Inc., a Nashville, TN based provider of integrated health management for small and medium employers. Kozicki was integral to building the business plan, negotiating strategic alliances, courting customers, and raising capital. Kozicki spoke at numerous conferences on health and wellness and became a vocal advocate for change in the US health care system.

Previously, Mr. Kozicki was the Chief Technology Officer for Healthways (NASDAQ:HWAY), the world’s leading disease and care management service provider. As CTO, Kozicki was responsible for expanding the infrastructure, operations, planning, and governance of IT from the needs of a $70M organization to that of a $450M organization.

During his three-year tenure, he implemented change control methods and platforms, enabling the business to become Sarbanes-Oxley compliant. He also migrated hardware and software platforms which enabled a 1,200 percent increase in productivity of new customer processing, and he designed the IT strategic roadmap for Healthways’ continued growth. Kozicki served as an adjunct to the corporate development team and was responsible for evaluating and developing new business opportunities, strategies and acquisitions, including Healthways’ entrance into wellness, Medicare, and international markets.

Before joining Healthways, Kozicki was founder and Chief Executive Officer of Factory23, Inc., a Nashville, TN-based data center focused on small and medium sized business IT outsourcing. Factory23 built and operated a 24,000 square foot data center facility in Nashville, the most advanced facility in the state of Tennessee. At its height, Factory23 offered unequalled services in bandwidth, security, and storage to blue chip customers in the publishing, distribution, finance, and entertainment industries.

From 1998-2000, Kozicki was co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of BlueStar Communications, a Nashville, TN-based DSL broadband Internet provider. BlueStar started with just two employees and grew to 1,000 employees within 18 months, becoming the largest regional DSL carrier in the US. At its height, BlueStar operated in 45 markets, had over 14,000 lines in service, and had the distinction of being the first to bring broadband Internet access to dozens of communities across the south. In 1999, BlueStar set the record in Tennessee for the largest private equity round by a non-manufacturing company when it raised $71M for the Series C round. BlueStar was sold in June, 2000 to Covad Communications (NASDAQ:DVW) for $650M.

Prior to forming BlueStar, Kozicki served as a technology consultant and developer for nearly 10 years, designing and building some of the Internet's earliest sites, including Wired magazine's hotwired.com, the SEC's EDGAR database, top 5 retailer Service Merchandise's online store, and the first online music retailer.

Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Kozicki is active in community organizations that promote active lifestyles and good health. Kozicki is a registered USA Hockey official and youth coach. Kozicki also serves on the advisory board for Team Green, the largest outdoor adventure club in the US.
